A squiggle by a genius!

Yep I am one of those mothers. The ones that look at a squiggle their child has made in awe, dragging their husband over even, to listen to the explanation that the squiggle is in fact a spider. And to us it is an amazing spider, it has legs, it has a round(ish) body, it is beautiful! I love my child's drawings, but then I have always loved children's art, the abandon with which they draw, the spontaneity, the innocence and curiousity. By the way the second to last photo is of the little work space and 'exhibition' space that belongs to him. It is somewhere that gives me joy aswell and a creative outlet for me too.

More hens

Enjoy drawing hens so much, they can be drawn spontaneously, and their anatomical structure is full of interesting twists and turns. Full of character.

Sketchbooks

Work past and more present. Sketchbook work is proving to be my creative sustenance while I'm too busy with mummy stuff for bigger work. I am finding though sketchbook work has value and helping me keep a sense of inspiration, not a new idea I know but something I have realised while working over the past couple of years.

More birds

More birds, gulls again, from a duck feeding outing in Knutsford, Cheshire. I really must start drawing them!

Capturing moments

I've found documenting my two little boy's early years through drawing and writing is still a way to be creative if I don't have time to make my own work. I so want to remember the small moments of their lives especially these stages of 2 half years and 8 months old that go so quickly! These illustrations are of parts of Samuel's nursery, a batik painting of a coral reef on the wall and his toys strewn on the floor, oh yes and his space ship mobile!

Tea and Hummingbird

I made this watercolour on canvas painting a while ago and really quite like it. Birds seem to be a recurring subject in my work, although so do cups, so the perfect partnership!

Half way through or not yet begun

I actually began a book last night that I have renewed at the library about four times, I keep doing so because I know I'll enjoy the book but haven't had a chance to begin it, its The Song House by Trezza Azzopardi, so far so good! The other books I am half way through or not yet begun. Neil Macgregor's The History of the World in 100 Objects I am also very much enjoying, a completely refreshing way to consider world history, more as a visual story, and a chance to escape to the British Museum for a while! Have you any books that you have piled ready and waiting to be read? I also have a written list somewhere of books I really want to get!
